VRSA Student Award of Merit
Purpose:
The award is provided as a means of recognizing the outstanding contribution, involvement and exceptional performance of an individual student member within his/her respective Campus Recreation Department as well as on a state or national basis within the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA).
Eligibility:
To be eligible for nomination, the individual should meet the following criteria:
1. Hold current membership in VRSA
2. Must be enrolled in a Virginia university/college at the time of the nomination
3. Must be a participant of, volunteer for, and/or employed by the Campus Recreation Department
4. Completed Nomination Form with Letter of Support submitted by a NIRSA Professional Member
Criteria:
Nominees for the award should demonstrate exceptional performance in one or more of the following areas:
1. Involvement within VRSA and/or NIRSA
2. Exceptional Achievement of the individual within his/her current role in Campus Recreation
3. Significant contribution in Campus Recreation through participation in committee work, student organizations and leadership in employee training, orientation, etc.
4. Demonstration of service on a departmental, campus, and/or community-wide basis through volunteer work
5. Demonstration of professional development through certifications, presentations, participation in professional organizations, continuing education, self-improvement and/or research.
Selection Process:
The selection process shall be coordinated by the State Director of Virginia. The award recipient will be determined by the members of the VRSA Scholarship Committee.
Recognition:
The award winner and his/her institution will be recognized at the NIRSA Annual Conference during the state business meeting. If the winner is unable to attend the conference, the plaque will be mailed to the Campus Recreation Director so an appropriate on-campus presentation may occur. The name of the award recipient will also be published on the VRSA website, the VRSA newsletter and the regional newsletter.
Timeline:
Nominations must be submitted to Stacy Smith by January 26th, 20007.
