Student Award of Merit (see page 4 for more information), George Mason will be hosting the 1st Annual VRSA State Soccer Tournament next month, we have individuals standing for office both on the student and professional level at the national conference, as well as individuals presenting at various conferences throughout the course of the year.  Certainly an exciting time for our state!

Unfortunately the VRSA Extramural Basketball Tournament, scheduled for the weekend of March 17-19, had to be cancelled due to an insufficient number of teams participating. Although this year wasn’t as successful  as we hoped for, I am extremely confident we will be able to host this event next year. I think we ran into some unavoidable hardships with the timing of the tournament that will hopefully be avoidable next year. During  the state business meeting at the National Conference we will discuss this event in greater detail in hopes of finding a more suitable time to have this event next year. A huge thank you goes out to  Greg Corack (JMU), Bob Golson (JMU), Todd Bowman (UVA), the Student Officials Association at JMU and the VRSA Extramural Committee. These individuals put a tremendous amount of time, effort and energy into the planning and preparation of this event, which made announcing the cancellation so much more difficult. Their dedication and commitment to this tournament is truly appreciated and highly commendable!

At the national conference we will be holding elections for State Student Representative, Assistant State Director, Treasurer/Secretary and Historian during our state business meeting.  If you are thinking about running for any of these positions or would like to nominate someone, please contact Stacy Smith at ss9ug@virginia.edu or 434.982.4866. You do not have to be present at the conference in order to run for office. We truly appreciate the commitment and dedication our current officers have displayed over the course of the last several years: Jennifer Rezac (Asst. State Director); Anne Zielinski (Secretary/Treasurer); Sue Boling (Historian); Lindsey Ervin (Student State Rep.)
